A North Austin man was charged today in a weekend shooting that left a teenage girl critically injured, officials said.
David Thornton, 23, of the 5100 block of West Crystal Street, was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the Saturday shooting, according to Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
The 14-year-old girl was walking with a group of people early Saturday morning on the 5100 block of West Crystal when a fight broke out between two males, according to a police report. One of the males pulled out a gun and fired, striking the teenage girl in the back, police said.
The girl did not appear to be the intended target, police said.
She was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police.
