A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot this afternoon in a drive-by shooting in the city's Little Village neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting is the second slaying involving a 16-year-old boy in the gang-plagued neighborhood in less than 24 hours.
The teen, whose identity wasn't being released, was shot in the chest on the street in the 4200 block of West 28th Street just after 4 p.m., according to police spokesman Officer John Mirabelli.
The teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in very critical condition and was later pronounced dead, police said.
A vehicle with several occupants was seen fleeing the scene, but police didn't have a description of it.
This shooting is less than a mile away from where a 16-year-old boy was found stabbed to death in a Little Village gangway Wednesday night. Another police spokesman said investigators believe today's shooting is gang-related, but wouldn't say whether both slayings were connected
