Two children were shot and wounded Sunday afternoon while they were playing in their front yard in the Washington Park neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, police said.
The shooting happened about 4:18 p.m. on the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
An 8-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to his buttocks. The other victim, a 13-year-old girl, was shot in her arm, Greer said.
Both children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital. There was no information available about their conditions, according to the officer.
Greer said preliminary reports indicated the children were standing outside with a group of other people when unknown suspects approached, pulled out guns and fired.
The children were not the intended targets, she said.
As of 10:45 p.m., no one was in custody for the shooting, Greer said.
