An off-duty police officer shot at a man in the West Lawn neighborhood early Thursday morning.
The officer saw the man breaking into a car and confronted him. The suspect got into his own vehicle and drove by the officer, who told investigators the man raised an object he believed to be a weapon.
The officer fired one shot that shattered the vehicle's glass but did not hit the man, and the suspect drove to Holy Cross Hospital.
When the suspect walked into hospital, he said he had been shot at 72nd Street and Ashland Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood.
Police said the man, 20, had proceeds from the burglary in his car when he arrived to the hospital and he was arrested.
