Police issued a community alert this afternoon warning about a series of armed-robberies on the city's Southwest Side.
Police said the robberies have occurred in the Chicago Lawn District. The
robber approaches his victims on the sidewalk and displays a revolver handgun
before demanding their property. The robberies all happened during
the afternoon hours.
On Nov. 19, the robber struck two different times at about 5 p.m. on the 6600
block of South Millard Avenue and on the 3800 block of West Marquette Road,.
The next day, the robber struck three more times. The first robbery happened
about 3:30 p.m. on the 4900 block of South Lawndale Avenue, and the next robbery
occurred 20 minutes later on the 6500 block of South Springfield Avenue. The
last reported robbery happened about 4:30 p.m. on the 5900 block of South
The robber was described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 30. He is
between 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs between 150 to 250 pounds.
