A 34-year-old man was fatally shot near a bus shelter on the Far South Side in one of three shootings early this morning.
Jeffery Whiters, of the 1200 block of West 74th Place, was shot about 12:15
a.m. near a bus shelter in the 2400 block of East 100th Street.
Police found at least nine shell casings just west of the bus shelter. The
preliminary investigation suggested the shooter stepped out of a vehicle while
Whiters was standing near the shelter
Officers were called to the block for a call of shots fired and did not
immediately see anyone shot. Whiters was found lying between a two-story brick
home and a chain link fence.
He was taken in critical
condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced
dead at 2:47 a.m.
