Trevonti Carson, of the 5700 block of South Green Street, is alleged to have killed 21-year-old Devorite Diggins near the intersection of Halsted and 59th streets on Wednesday.
Diggins and another 21-year-old were shot about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday. Diggins died at the scene and the other man's wounds were not life threatening
Diggins lived in the 6200 block of South Aberdeen Street.
Carson was also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and is due in court Monday. He was arrested Saturday.
Carson has two previous gun arrests, according to court records, both of which were cases that involved guilty pleas.
In Nov. 2012, he was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and criminal trespass to a vehicle. He pleaded guilty to some charges the next month, was sentenced to one year in prison and credit for 30 days of time served. He was paroled from Vandalia Correctional Center in May of this year, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.
In Feb. 2010, Carson was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, not having a firearm owner identification card and having an unregistered firearm. He was sentenced to community service and one year of supervision.
