Charles Moore, 18, has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Jarell Dotson, 22, who was wounded while in a car driving in the 6300 block of South May Street about 12:40 a.m. May 15. Moore also was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 25-year-old man who also was in the car.
Dotson was driving a van and turned from 63rd Street onto May Street, when a man came out from between parked cars and fired a handgun into the passenger side of the van, where the 25-year-old was sitting.
The van continued on, hitting a tree and a car, both victims were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital for treatment.
Dotson, of the 6700 block of South Aberdeen Avenue, suffered four gunshot wounds, and died at the hospital at 1:29 a.m. May 15. The other man was struck in the shoulder suffered a broken jaw from the crash and was stabilized at the hospital.
Witnesses identified the shooter as someone known by the nickname of Lil' Charles, and police were able to identify Moore as the suspect. They also figured out that Moore had fled the city to escape arrest, but found out recently that he had returned to the South Side.
Moore, of the 300 block of East 68th Street, was arrested Tuesday
