A Gresham man was arrested Saturday afternoon and charged with armed robbery after
police officers identified him as the man accused of robbing a clothing maker he
met on Instagram.
Devontae Watkins, 21, of the 1200 block of West 81st Street, allegedly made a
plan with a clothing designer from Calumet City to buy some of her products
after he saw them posted on Instagram. He contacted the woman through his
Instagram account and they agreed to meet on Sept. 11.
That day, the woman drove to meet Watkins, who climbed into the car to look
at a bag she was carrying full of pants, belts, and baseball caps, among other
items. Then Watkins brandished a knife with a
four-inch blade and demanded the woman give him all of the clothing items while
an unknown co-offender walked toward her car holding a gun.
Watkins was identified by police after the woman pointed them to a photo of
him she found on his Instagram account.
