A 29-year-old man was fatally shot at a West Side gas station early this morning.
About 2:05 a.m., a 29-year-old man was shot at a gas station in the 300 block
of South Cicero Avenue. Police called to the gas station for a person shot found
the man with a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
The man was crossing the gas station's parking lot with some acquaintances
when he was shot in the left side
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and died there later this morning. A bullet that struck him
in the left chest lodged in the right side of his chest, and he was taken into
surgery but was pronounced dead just after 5 a.m.
Police had initially said he was in serious condition. He was identified as
Lionel Johnson of the 4300 block of West Jackson Street
