Bail was set at $250,000 today for a 37-year-old man charged with sexually
abusing a CTA rider on the Brown Line who spotted him two days later on a train
platform sporting the same red gym shoes he was wearing during the attack.
Echevarria, of the 2600 block of North Harding Avenue, was charged with
criminal sexual abuse and failure to register as a sex offender.
Echevarria, who was wearing red gym shoes during the proceedings, is accused
of sexually abusing a 25-year-old woman's while she was riding a crowded Brown
Line train Tuesday morning.
A police report said the woman told
Echevarria to stop several times and she tried to get away but couldn't move as
the train traveled southbound from the Fullerton station.
Another rider eventually pulled Echevarria off the woman and shielded her
from him, allowing her to leave at the Sedgwick station.
While waiting for another Brown Line train Thursday at the Fullerton station,
the woman noticed a man wearing the same red gym shoes that Echevarria had on
two days earlier, according to the report. She alerted CTA employees, who did
not allow Echevarria to board a train and called police.
