A federal jury found David "Big Man" Lewisbey guilty Friday of a gun-smuggling scheme that involved the illegal sale of more than a dozen guns on some of Chicago's most violent streets.
The verdict followed a week and a half
long trial in which Lewisbey sought to cast himself as a gun enthusiast and
marijuana seller as opposed to an illegal transporter of guns across state
attending the University of Houston in the spring of 2013 when prosecutors said
he flew back to Illinois to attend a gun show in Indiana. Then, prosecutors say,
over a two-day period he helped sell 43 guns to a government informant, sharing
in a more than $20,000 profit.
Fourteen of the guns were traced directly
back to sellers that Lewisbey frequently bought guns from
