Detectives are warning South Side residents about a man who at least twice
this month has posed as a federal agent and robbed people.
The man robbed people about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday and about 3 p.m. Sept. 15, both
in the South Chicago Police District.
In both the Sept. 15 robbery in the 7700 block of South Colfax Avenue and the
Tuesday robbery in the 8100 block of South Paxton Avenue, the man was driving a
tan sport-utility vehicle with temporary plates.
The man pulled over to talk to someone on the sidewalk, said he was a federal
agent or officer named Franklin, and—despite his not being in uniform and having
no credentials—convinced each victim to get into his car as part of a supposed
criminal investigation.
The man then drove a little way, parked, showed a silver semi-automatic
handgun to each victim, and robbed them.
The robber is described as a black man of medium complexion, between the ages
of 40 and 50, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He is
bald and has sideburns that are attached to a goatee or mustache. The man has
been driving a tan SUV, possibly a late-model Mercury Mountaineer
