The second of two men accused of beating a man unconscious before stealing
his Cadillac early Friday on the West Side was ordered held in lieu of $300,000
bond today in court.
A judge set bail at $300,000 for Michael Landers, 22, of the 5500 block of
West Van Buren Street, who was charged with felony vehicular hijacking.
Another man named Tony Landers, unknown if he is related, was in court
Saturday and also was ordered held in lieu of $300,000 bond, charged with
vehicular hijacking for the incident, which happened in the 600 block of North
Springfield Avenue Friday about 2:30 a.m.
When the victim reached for a lighter, he was struck in the face and then
dragged out of the car by Tony Landers and the accomplice. After the victim was
out of the car, Tony Landers and the other man beat the man until he was
unconscious, then drove away in his car, a Cadillac Seville.
Tony Landers and the other man also stole an iPhone and $94 from the victim Saturday.
Tony Landers was arrested later Friday after police located the stolen
vehicle, according to court documents. He was also charged with one count of
vehicular hijacking, a Class I felony
