A Garfield Park neighborhood man accused of beating a man unconscious before stealing his car with another man was ordered held in lieu of $300,000.
Prosecutors said Tony Landers, 23, of the 700 block of North Harding Avenue, and another man who has not been detained, approached the victim in his vehicle Friday in the 600 block of North Springfield Avenue, and asked if they could borrow a lighter.
When the man reached for a lighter, he was struck in the face and then dragged out of the car by Landers and the other offender. After the victim was out of the car, Landers and the other man beat the man until he was unconscious then drove away in his car, a Cadillac Seville.
Landers and the other man also stole an iPhone and $94 from the victim.
Landers was arrested later Friday after police located the stolen vehicle, according to court documents. He is charged with one count of vehicular hijacking, a Class 1 felony.
