A Far South Side homeowner stabbed a man to death who was burglarizing his garage and who had attacked him with a hammer.
The 44-year-old resident of the West Pullman neighborhood and his wife heard their garage alarm go off about 3:15 a.m. this morning.
He went to his garage in the 0-100 block of West Brayton Street and found a 52-year-old man inside.
The burglar grabbed a nearby hammer when confronted by the homeowner and attacked him.
The homeowner "produced a knife" , and stabbed his attacker.
The 52-year-old was pronounced dead at Roseland Hospital a short time later.
The homeowner suffered minor injuries during the struggle and was treated for the injuries at the scene.
Hayes was questioned by police and no charges have been filed.
