An 18-year-old man was charged with two counts of murder and another count of attempted murder in connection with a shooting in June that left a 5-year-old boy and his mother dead.
Antonio Lewis, of the 5500 block of South Winchester Avenue, won't appear in bond court Friday because he was shot the night after he's alleged to have killed the boy, Sterling Sims, and his 31-year-old mother Chavonne Brown.
Lewis is accused of entering Brown's home in the 5300 block of South Winchester Avenue about 2:40 a.m. on June 28 and shooting Brown and her son Sterling. Lewis tried to shoot Sterling's 11-year-old brother but his gun malfunctioned
Someone on foot opened fire in the 2800 block of West Arthington Street before 11 p.m. and Lewis was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
The shooting left Lewis in critical condition and police weren't sure he was going to survive. He did, though, and police announced the charges early Friday morning. Lewis remains at Mount Sinai Hospital
