Police have arrested a relative in the beating death of a 3-month-old baby.
Officers and paramedics were called about 3:41 p.m. on Aug. 22 to a home on
the 1100 block of West 88th Street for a call of an unresponsive baby.
When they arrived, the child's grandmother was performing CPR on the baby.
She told police her son was playing an Xbox game when he noticed the baby was
limp on the couch. He told the grandmother that he had just finished feeding the
baby four ounces of cereal.
He then brought the baby upstairs to the child's grandmother and she
performed CPR until the paramedics arrived.
The child's mother was attending classes.
The baby, Tayshaun Dyson, was rushed to Little Company of Mary Hospital and
Health Care Centers, where doctors found he had bleeding to his skull and a
bruise on his abdomen.
The baby was transferred to Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn
where he was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m. Sunday.
An autopsy revealed Tayshaun died of a closed head injury from child abuse
and his death was ruled a homicide.
Wednesday afternoon, a relative of the baby was arrested in the 8900 block of
South Troop Street
