Convicted felon held on $2 million for 2011 South Side slaying

A 34-year-old man was ordered held on $2 million bail after being charged with fatally stabbing a man almost two years ago on the Far South Side.
Michael Shegog, then 32, was charged with first degree murder in connection with the December 2011 slaying of Karrieem Dixon, 50, of the 200 block of West 115th Street.
Dixon was found after his mother called police and asked for a well-being check after failing to hear from her son in mid-December.
Police went to his home on 115th Street and found Dixon with stab wounds to his chest, back, arms and neck. Blood was found inside Dixon's home, as well as an axe.
Dixon's death was later determined to be caused by stab, incision wounds and blunt force trauma and was ruled a homicide.
A witness later told police he saw Dixon alive on Dec. 14, 2011, when Dixon came to pick him up for an appointment at Roseland Community Hospital. He told police that Shegog was with Dixon that day and that Shegog was dressed in army fatigues. The witness said Dixon never picked him back up from the hospital as he had promised. Detectives discovered Dixon's truck was missing.
Other witnesses told detectives that on the night of Dec. 14, Shegog came to their home wearing bloody fatigues. He also had a stab wound on his leg and went to Roseland Hospital for treatment.
On Dec. 29, police found Dixon's truck in a vacant lot about two miles away from his home. Witnesses said the truck had been there for about two weeks.
Dried blood was found on the truck's steering wheel and the ignition had been punched. Blood also was recovered from gearshift, dash knobs and turn signal handle, according to court documents. A screwdriver and a washcloth were found on the front seat.
Blood samples from the victims' home and truck were tested and shown to match Shegog's DNA
