An 85-year-old man was pushed down and robbed as he climbed the stairs of a Blue Line stop in the Loop this morning.
The man was following his 83-year-old wife up the steps in the 300 block of South Dearborn Street around 10:30 a.m. when he was knocked down and his wallet taken.
He suffered head and neck injuries and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
The wife told police a young man ran past her and she turned around to see her husband at the bottom of the stairs bleeding. He told her that his wallet containing about $40 and credit cards had been stolen.
Officers were interviewing the man at the hospital. The couple is from Des Plaines.
Police described the robber as a black man with dark complexion, about 5-foot-9 and wearing a black shirt and black shorts.
Authorities said the CTA may have video of the incident.
