Lamont (you big dummy) Gordon, 46, and Stacy Yearby, who turned 42 on Friday, both face burglary charges in the break-ins that began about May 4 and continued throughout the month. Gordon is charged in nine burglaries, at least four of them matching a pattern of burglaries on the Near North Side publicized when detectives issued an alert May 17.
The two, who both are believed to be homeless and gave their addresses as a Near West Side homeless shelter
Police said Gordon and Yearby, who are acquaintances, broke into buildings with multiple retail businesses in the River North and Near North areas.
In the Area Central detective alert, police said a burglar or burglars had been going into the business buildings in the Near North Police District by forcing front or back doors, then entering the businesses by breaking glass doors inside.
The pair took electronics, including laptop computers, clothing, cash and a little jewelry,. Some of the stolen property has been returned to its owners.
Police were able to identify Gordon and Yearby after viewing video surveillance of at least one of the crimes.
The pair were arrested Wednesday at 7:20 a.m. in the 300 block of West Lower Wacker Drive.
Gordon is charged in nine burglaries and Yearby is charged in four.
Gordon has at least two previous burglary convictions and a conviction for home invasion dating back to 2000.
In 2008, he pleaded guilty in two burglaries and was sentenced to 7 years in prison, according to court records. One of the burglaries took place May 23, 2007 in the 7400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, and the other took place May 26, 2007, in 1800 block of West 47th Street.
In 2001, Gordon was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty in a home invasion
