Chicago man charged in fatal hit-and-run

A Chicago man is facing multiple charges in connection with a hit-and-run Thursday night that killed a Southwest Side woman and injured another.
Fernando Marin, 40, of the 4500 block of South Drake Avenue, was speeding down South Homan Avenue toward the intersection with South Archer Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, according to court documents.
Ida Quintanilla, 58, was carrying groceries, had the walk signal and was crossing Archer at the Homan intersection with her sister,
Marin allegedly attempted to turn left onto Archer as the green light was turning yellow, but he failed to yield to Quintanilla.
Marin allegedly lost control of the truck before running over Quintanilla and dragging her under the truck.
Quintanilla's sister yelled at Marin as he drove away but he did not slow down.
Quintanilla, of the 2600 block of West Montgomery Avenue, suffered severe head injuries, had a wheel run over her midsection and suffered broken legs, among other injuries.
She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead there.
After dragging Quintanilla, witnesses said Marin made a right turn and drove the wrong way down South Christiana Avenue, court documents state. A 35-year-old woman also sustained injuries in the incident.
Police said a witness provided a license plate number for the red Chevrolet Suburban truck involved in the incident, and police traced it to the suspect.
The truck belonged to Marin’s girlfriend. It had a cracked grill, and blood was recovered from the vehicle.

He is charged with leaving the scene of accident that resulted in injury or death, driving with a revoked license, not giving the right of way to a pedestrian and not having insurance.
Marin has two prior DUI charges, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jim Pontrelli said in court Sunday. He pleaded guilty in a November 2008 DUI in Chicago, and had his license suspended or revoked
