A car ran into a group of pedestrians on Central Avenue just south of Belmont Avenue before 1 a.m. Saturday morning, police said, killing a 38-year-old man.
Mario Ortega had been crossing the street with three women, who were also hit. Ortega was pronounced dead at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center at 1:10 a.m. He lived in the 4700 block of West Palmer Street.
The three women were taken to area hospitals. A 38-year-old woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a broken ankle, a 32-year-old woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center with head trauma, and a 25-year-old woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with head trauma.
The car fled north on Central Avenue and hit a few more cars before coming to rest. A 35-year-old man with two recent arrests for driving on a suspended license is in custody and police said charges are pending.

Leroy Bobo's blood-alcohol content was more than double the legal limit, Cook
County prosecutors said in announcing multiple counts of aggravated DUI, failure
to report a fatal accident and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
