A 15-year-old boy was charged with trying to bring a handgun into a Northwest
Side high school this morning.
The incident happened at
about 9 a.m. at Foreman High School, 3235 N. Leclaire Ave..
The boy was with his mother as they were entering the school this
morning. The boy was asked to put his book bag into an X-ray
detector but refused.
After the boy was asked again to put
the bag into the X-ray machine, he again refused. This time he tried to give the
bag to his mother who refused to take it.
After security
officials became suspicious they took the bag, opened it and found an unloaded
.25 caliber semi-automatic handgun inside.
The boy was then
put under arrest and charged as an adult with unlawful use of a weapon in a
school zone. The mother was not charged,
