James Shorty, of Momence, was charged in connection with the attack about 5:45 a.m. on Dec. 19. He was identified using DNA evidence checked against the Combined DNA Indexing System, a program run by the FBI.
The victim, 50, told police she was walking south on Glenwood Avenue when a man wearing a mask grabbed her by the throat near the entrance to the Morse CTA station and dragged her into a nearby construction area.
He punched her in the head and body, causing bruises and cuts. The woman screamed and her attacker "threatened to snap her neck" if she screamed again.
The woman said she saw a worker at the site and ran toward him as the attacker fled with the woman's clothes and purse. The items were later found in an alley and on the roof of a nearby garage.
Shorty was also wanted on a parole warrant, according to police. He's due in court today, charged with felony aggravated criminal sexual assault and felony aggravated kidnapping
