A 42-year-old South Side man picked up Friday after allegedly attempting an armed robbery has been charged in connection with a series of armed robberies on the South and Southwest Sides.
Rondale Jett, 42, of the 2000 block of 69th Street in the West Englewood neighborhood, was charged late Friday with five counts of armed robbery, one count of robbery and one count of aggravated attempted robbery.
Jett was arrested Friday after he had allegedly attempted to rob a 48-year-old woman at gunpoint in the 6100 block of South Spaulding Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. When the woman yelled for help, a male citizen came to the woman's aid and Jett fled the area on foot.
The citizen who had come to help saw Jett attempting to enter a black automobile and, after he and the woman had flagged down a passing 8th District and directed them toward that vehicle on the 6200 block of South Spaulding, officers found Jett in the vehicle. Police took him into custody and found a weapon.
Police believe Jett was involved in a series of robberies between Dec. 23 and Jan. 3, and, after he was identified by victims, charged him with additional crimes
