Shawn Stubblefield, of the 1800 block of South 4th Avenue, was charged today with kidnapping, criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual assault following an attack on a girl in the 400 block of North Parkside Avenue in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood on Monday.
Stubblefield is also being charged with kidnapping and child abduction in relation to separate abduction attempts on two Oak Park teenagers as they were walking to school Wednesday morning.
In the Chicago incident, police said that the 13-year-old girl was walking east on the 5500 block of West Race Avenue around 7:15 a.m. Monday when a man approached her on foot. The man told the girl he had been watching her, grabbed her around the neck and told her that he had a gun.
The assailant then took the girl to his car parked on the 400 block of North Parkside Avenue where he sexually assaulted her. After the attack, the man drove the girl to her home and threatened to burn her house down if she did not get him money. Once inside, the girl called police and the man fled before officers could arrive.
On Wednesday morning, a 16-year-old student at Oak Park and River Forest High School was walking to school in the 100 block of South Taylor Avenue when a man approached her, put his arm around her neck and started pulling her. The girl screamed, bit the man’s finger and pulled away. The man released the girl after a nearby motorist stopped.
Less than 30 minutes later, a 13-year-old eighth-grader was walking to Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School when she was attacked in the 700 block of Home Avenue. The girl said that a man came up behind her and put his hand over her mouth. She then screamed and ran toward someone in a passing car. The attacker fled the scene.
Police arrested Stubblefield in River Forest within minutes of the second attack on Wednesday after an off-duty Maywood police officer spotted him driving erratically and alerted local authorities
