A 44-year-old man was struck by a car and killed Saturday night in the Avalon Park
neighborhood on the South Side.
The man stepped into northbound traffic on the 7900 block of South Stony
Island Avenue at about 11:15 p.m..
He was struck by a 1997 Chrystler Cirrus as it
proceeded through a green light, Greer said. He was not in a crosswalk at the
time.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was
pronounced dead at 12:21 a.m..
He was identified by the medical examiner's office as Christopher Cooper of
the 2700 block of South Indiana Avenue.
Police have issued the driver of the Cirrus, 23-year-old Frederick Jackson, a
citation for failing to exercise due care.
