Former high school basketball star dies from shooting injuries

Dejuan Thurman, 36, was a well-known basketball player in the Morgan Park neighborhood.
The former high school basketball star died Saturday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after he was shot in an apparent robbery a month ago.
Thurman had come back from a basketball game at a nearby court about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 17 when three males, one holding a gun, approached him in an alley in the 11300 block of South May Street, behind his family's house, and asked him to "empty his pockets" .
After surrendering his house keys, cellphone and wallet, Thurman pushed two of the males into each other. But as he tried to leave the alley, he was shot. Police said he was shot multiple times in the chest and back.
