Chicago police had four people in custody following a drive-by shooting that
injured a man in the Washington Park neighborhood.
The 32-year-old victim was shot in the 6200 block of South Michigan Avenue
shortly after midnight.
The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen,
but his condition wasn't immediately known.
A Chicago police officer happened to be in the area and quickly pursued the
green van with several occupants seen fleeing the area.
Police followed the van into a the Englewood neighborhood and radioed to
officers in the Englewood police district regarding the pursuit. One of the
van's occupants bailed out of the van, but was quickly arrested.
The van continued on but later crashed. Police later arrested three men near
Kennedy-King College.
Witnesses at the scene of the shooting positively identified at least three
of the male suspects as the men in the van and police also recovered a handgun.
At least one of the men was on parole and had two prior convictions for
unlawful use of a weapon
