University of Illinois at Chicago police today warned of the robbery of a
student late Thursday just west of the schoo's main campus, a week after a
student was robbed about two blocks away.
The student was robbed on Polk Street near Oakley Boulevard about 9:30 p.m.
Thursday, near where another female student was robbed on Sept. 6.
In Thursday’s robbery, the student was walking east on Polk when a man riding
a bicycle came up from behind and hit her in the head as he demanded money. The robber did not show a gun, but the student believed he
was armed.
The robber grabbed the woman’s backpack, then rode his bike south on Oakley.
The student was injured, but declined medical treatment.
On Sept. 6, another female student was robbed about 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 6 in
the 500 block of South Oakley, about two blocks north of where the student was
robbed Thursday. In that attack, the robber stole the student’s cell phone and
messenger bag.
Police described Thursday’s robber as a black man about 20 to 30 years old,
standing about 5-foot-8 and weighing 150 pounds, with brown eyes, short black
hair and dark complexion. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.
