A man in his 30s who was robbed in Little Village early Sunday morning died after
he was hit by a car following the attack.
Police are investigating whether the robbers – four or five men in a white
Ford Taurus ran him down and hit him. The car that hit the man and the car
carrying the robbers which may be the same car left the scene.
The dead man was identified as Armando Mendoza, according to the Cook County
medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at
5:38 a.m..
Mendoza and his 27-year-old friend were in the 2700 block of South Kedvale
Avenue when the group of men in the Taurus announced a robbery. It's not clear if a weapon
was displayed or if the attackers implied they had a weapon.
The two victims split up and Mendoza was hit by a car shortly after the
robbery. Because the car that hit the man is gone, police aren't
sure whether it's the same one that carried the robbers.
The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a 2000 to 2005 Ford Taurus with
damage to the passenger side headlights
