Police detectives asked for the public’s help today in finding a pair of
robbers who have been holding up people near the south end of Jackson Park this
week, one of them wearing what’s believed to be a “Scream” Halloween mask.
Three robberies took place within an hour late Tuesday, all just south or
west of Jackson Park.
A young man or teenager wearing a black-and-white mask has gotten out of a
sport-utility vehicle late at night, gone up to victims and announced robberies.
The robber also has shown a chrome or silver handgun to his victims. Another
man has been driving the car.
The robberies Tuesday happened starting at 10:15 p.m. in the 6700 block of
South Cregier Avenue; other robberies took place at 10:20 p.m. in the 6900 block
of South Oglesby Avenue; and at 11:10 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 67th
Street.
The robber who has worn the mask is described as black, between ages 15 and
20 and standing between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-11, wearing dark clothing. The man
who is believed to have been driving the SUV, which is either grey or white,
possibly a Saturn or GMC, is also believed to be a black man between the ages of
18 and 22, with dreadlocks and also wearing dark clothing.
