A South Austin man pointed a gun at a 73-year-old man before forcing him to empty
his pockets of change and surrender his car.
The elderly man was coming back from his regular walk in Columbus Park in the
South Austin neighborhood Wednesday about 7 p.m. when a man approached him in
the parking lot.
Willie Frazier, 21, allegedly displayed a handgun and told him to empty his
pockets
Frazier then told him to leave the keys to his car in the lock of the trunk
and walk away. The man initially refused but complied
when Frazier pointed the handgun to his head.
He then took off with the man's tan 1999 Chevrolet Lumina.
On Friday, Frazier was attempting to park the car in the 300 block of South
Austin Boulevard in Oak Park, when he spotted an unmarked police vehicle, police
records state. He then took off on foot, prompting the officer to put out a
message with the description of the suspect and the direction he fled in.
Another officer spotted Frazier and took him into custody.
Frazier, of the 100 block of North Lotus Avenue, was charged with one felony
count of vehicular hijacking.
