Man charged in slaying of basketball player

A far South Side man has been charged in the slaying of a 22-year-old man who had recently committed to play basketball at a Division I school.
Cinque Lee, 20, of the 11600 block of South Vincennes Avenue, was charged this afternoon with first degree murder in the slaying of Michael Haynes on July 26. Lee was taken into custody in the 8100 block of South Loomis Boulevard Tuesday morning after witnesses identified him as the shooter in Haynes' slaying.

Lee was expected to appear in bond court on Thursday.
Haynes was shot in the 11600 block of South Vincennes Avenue the block where Lee lives and a block from Haynes' home as he was trying to break up a fight over a necklace.
Haynes, a 6-foot-7 inch forward, was set to play basketball during the 2012-2013 school year for the Iona College Gaels in New Rochelle, N.Y.
