A Lawndale man was charged in connection with a weekend traffic crash that left a
31-year-old woman dead.
Erick Ellison, 26, was charged with felony leaving the scene of a crash that
resulted in injury or death.
Ellison, of the 1500 block of South Sawyer Avenue, was also charged with
failure to give information or render aid and driving on a suspended license,
both misdemeanors, along with citations for disobeying a red circular steady
signal stop and failure to reduce speed.
Authorities said Ellison was driving a gray Chevrolet Monte Carlo east on
Douglas Boulevard when he ran a stop sign at Homan Avenue and struck a
northbound Pontiac Grand Prix, injuring its 31-year-old driver.
The Grand
Prix's driver, Ishia Norris, of the 4000 block of West Polk Street, was taken to
Saint Anthony Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the Cook
County medical examiner's office.
After the crash, Ellison bailed out of
his car and ran away on foot, leaving behind a female passenger who was
uncooperative with authorities, police said at the time. But Ellison turned himself in
to authorities later that day,
