A 16-year-old boy died today, four days after he was accidentally shot during a
home invasion authorities say he was involved in.
Douglas Bufford, 16, of the 7200 block of South East End Avenue, was declared
dead atJohn H. Stroger Hospitalat 1:55 p.m. today.
Two people have been charged with breaking into a home on the South Side
where the boy was shot. Jermalle Brown, 19, of the 7100 block of South East End
Avenue was charged with committing a home invasion on the 1400 block of East
73rd Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.
In addition to Brown, a 16-year-old was also charged but his name
was not available.
Earlier, police said between four or five males forced
their way into the home and announced a robbery.
One of the
group accidentally shot a fellow attacker, 16, in the back of the head.
The homeowner wasn't injured, according to authorities.
Brown appeared in bond court Saturday, and was being held in lieu of $250,000
in connection with the home invasion, according to jail records. There was no
immediate word on whether anyone would be charged in Bufford's death.
