A man behind the wheel of car that hit and seriously injured a 52-year-old woman
in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Wednesday evening before fleeing the
scene has been charged.
William Davis, 27, of the 4600 block of West Adams Street, was arrested today
after he turned himself in to the police Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
Davis was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a Class 4 felony,
and failure to report an accident with serious injury, a Class 2 Felony,
according to the statement. Additionally, Davis was cited with driving on a
suspended license and failure to take due care for pedestrians in the
roadway.
The wreck happened at about 9 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Lake
Street and Pulaski Road.
The car was eastbound on Lake Street when the woman crossed Pulaski Road from
the east side of the street to the west side of the street. The car made a right
turn onto Pulaski Road and struck the woman.
The woman
suffered head damage and injuries to her legs and was listed in critical
condition at Mount Sinai Hospital
