Prosecutors charged a 17-year-old Riverdale boy with shooting a 16-year-old
Chicago boy to death.
Jamal Lockett died after getting shot in the chest on the 7300 block of South
Coles Avenue about 3 p.m. on June 2.
Kalvin Carter, of the 13900 block of South Indiana Avenue in Riverdale, is
expected in court today on first degree murder and unlawful use of weapon
charges. Carter was also cited with misdemeanor possession of
cannabis.
Police at the time said Lockett was among a group of people arguing with
another over whether a bike was stolen.
As the group parted ways, someone from one group pulled a gun and shot at the
other group, hitting Lockett.
