Police tonight released surveillance photos and information about three men and
two vehicles sought in a series of at least seven robberies near ATMs this
year.
The robberies have taken place at ATMs near Bank
of America branches at various locations on the South Side, from Jan. 17 to
May 15.
In at
least two of the attacks, the robbers displayed a weapon and for an unknown
reason ordered the victim to deposit a check they provided before withdrawing
cash.
In the other incidents the robbers just ordered the
victims to withdraw cash and turn it over before the attackers
fled.
While three men are believed involved, surveillance cameras only
show one or two robbers as the others remained in a getaway car, described as
either a white 4-door car or a dark green 4-door Cadillac car, police
said.
A detailed description was available for only one suspect,
according to the community alert. That suspect was described as a black man
about 20-29, 5-foot-5 to 6-foot tall with a medium to dark
complexion.
The surveillance photos show that suspect was wearing a red
baseball cap with the word "Society" or something similar on it; a maroon and
gray jacket with #24 on the left should and "S" on the left side; dark pants;
and red, white and black gym shoes.
A blue steel revolver was displayed
in the attacks. The other two suspects are described as males but no details
were available.
The robberies took place in the Grand Crossing, South
Chicago and Gresham
districts. Anyone with information is asked to call Area South detectives at
312-747-8273
