A motorist trying to pass someone veered into oncoming traffic and crashed
head-on into another car, killing its 59-year-old driver during a five-vehicle
wreck early this morning in the Kilbourn Park neighborhood on the Northwest
Side.
The victim, who lived in the 5000 block of West Montana Street, was
pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center,
according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. His
identity was not being released this afternoon.
The wreck happened at 3:45 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Belmont Avenue when
a Toyota of an unknown model travelling westbound on Belmont tried to pass
another westbound driver and struck an eastbound vehicle head-on.
Three other vehicles subsequently collided.
The driver who did not survive was behind the wheel of an eastbound 1988
Honda of an unknown model.
The Toyota driver was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center
where his condition had "stabilized" as of this afternoon.
No other injuries were reported and no charges or citations have been filed
