2 men shot dead on Near West Side

Two men were shot and killed this morning on the city's Near West Side.
Killed were Estaban Alvarez, 27, of the 2200 block of South Leavitt Street and Alejandro Munoz, 26, of 2300 block of South Oakley Avenue.
Both men were wounded as they sat on a set of steps outside of Alvarez's home on South Leavitt in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood at about 12:45 a.m.
Munoz, who was shot in the head, was dead at the scene, while Alvarez, who was shot in the lower abdomen, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Early reports indicated both victims were wounded by two gunmen wearing dark clothing. They fled the scene in an older model white SUV,

Yes, it is terrible. I knew him since he was a kid. I'm a lot older, but we had good time playing sports. He didn't just play, he was a very good athlete. He grew to be a man & a great dad.Sorry for your loss. He will be missed by many including myself.

Rest in peace to coach alex he was a good man who gave his time to teach kids sports that's all he was on. He wasn't no banger.

This Saturday at Hoyne Park, Omega Delta Youth Baseball League will pay tribute to Coach Alex. At that time, t-shirts will be sold and proceeds will go to Coach Alex's wife & family. May Coach Alex rest in peace. I only knew him a short time, but he clearly was a good person and father.
