Ten held following Humboldt Park drug, weapons bust

Ten gang members including three boys have been charged and drugs, six pit bulls, and seven weapons were recovered following a two-month long investigation that ended in a North Side bust Tuesday.
Several search warrants were executed Tuesday after the probe that addressed gang and narcotics concerns in the area of 1600 North Spaulding Avenue, where incidents of gun violence recently had occurred.
The warrants resulted in the recovery of seven guns, including a sawed-off shotgun, as well as cannabis, six pit bulls, and the arrests of three boys and seven men.
Luis Rivas, 30, of the 2100 block of South 51st Avenue, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of delivery of cannabis within 1,000 feet if a school while Mahdi Gomez, 30, of the 1400 block of North Talman Avenue, was charged with one misdemeanor count of cannabis possession, the statement said.
Authorities could bring further charges once they appear in court.
Three juveniles were also charged. Two 16-year-old boys were charged with three felony counts each of delivery of controlled substance within 1,000 ft. of a school, while a 15-year-old boy was charged with one felony count of delivery of a controlled substance within 1000 ft. of a school.
During the course of the investigation, Chicago Police conducted numerous controlled narcotics purchases with several of the targets identified in surveillance. Several of the transactions took place within 1,000 feet of a school in the community.
The investigation was initiated in February and focused on the criminal activities of the Latin Kings street gang in the Shakespeare District on the North and Northwest Sides.
