A man on parole was arrested after he rammed a police vehicle with a stolen minivan in Englewood to avoid capture.
The incident happened at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on the 7000 block of South Normal Avenue and resulted in two female police officers being treated and released from Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Darius Mosley, 23, of the 6900 block of South Normal Avenue, who was driving the minivan, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated fleeing an accident causing bodily injury and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also wanted on a warrant for a parole violation.
He was also ticketed for driving without a license, failure to stop at a stop sign and not using a turn signal.
The Englewood District officers on patrol tried to stop a 1995 Chrysler minivan for a traffic violation, and when they ran the license plate of the vehicle they discovered that the van was reported stolen, Mirabelli said.
When the police tried to pull the van over Mosley attempted to flee and struck another police vehicle assisting the original officers, Mirabelli said.
The van accelerated and struck the police vehicle on the driver's side and injured the two female officers in the second police vehicle, police said. The van also struck two parked cars, Mirabelli said.
Mosley then jumped from the van and police pursued him before taking him into custody about a block away, Mirabelli said.
The man was apprehended on the 6900 block of South Normal Avenue, doors away from his home,
