A judge denied setting bail Wednesday for a man accused of snatching an iPhone from a 32-year-old man at knifepoint on the Near North Side Monday night.
Donell Winbush, 58, appeared in court today where a judge denied setting a bail for him. Winbush is charged with one count of felony armed robbery.
About 11:30 p.m. the victim was walking south on a sidewalk in the 1200 block of North Sedgwick Street when Winbush grabbed him and placed what the victim thought was a knife to his neck, saying “Don’t move, give me your shit’’.
Winbush searched the victim’s pockets and took his iPhone as the victim broke free and attracted the attention of officers patrolling nearby.
Police saw him waving both hands frantically above his head in the middle of the street as Winbush ran away.
Officers gave chase and apprehended Winbush in an alley off Sedgwick. While officers were handcuffing him, they found he had an iPhone that had been taken from the victim,
Winbush was arrested at 11:45 p.m.
