A 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and a 20-year-old man was shot in
the head about 9 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of West 48th Street in the Back
of the Yards neighborhood.
Someone got out of a car and shouted gang slogans before shooting at the pair
with a handgun. The shooter then got back in the car, which fled
west on 48th Street and south on Damen Avenue.
The older of the two died at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
He was identified as Alexander Mendoza.
Police said Mendoza is affiliated with a local gang and had an arrest
history.
The teen is in stable condition at Stroger
