Woman and man shot by off-duty Chicago Police detective

A woman and a man were shot by an off-duty Chicago Police officer in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side early this morning.
About 1 a.m. the off-duty Chicago Police detective shot a woman in the head and a man in the hand near the intersection of 15th Place and Albany Avenue.
Officers already in the residential area near Douglas Park heard the gunfire and rushed to the scene.
Police said the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, but a condition and hospital information for the woman was not known.
Pat Camden, a police union spokesman, said the detective was in his car in the 3100 block of West 15thStreet and was stopped when he ran across four people on the street who were causing a disturbance.
When he told them to quiet down, they approached his car and one of them raised a gun and pointed it at the detective, said Camden.
“At that point he fired a couple of shots in fear for his life,’’ Camden said of the detective. “He hit two offenders who ran from the scene.’’
Camden said they were eventually taken into custody and taken to the hospital. He did not know their conditions.
