Derrick Redmond, 28, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of David Gulley, 31, who was shot in the head on Thursday as he got out of a car in front of his Roseland neighborhood home on East 113th Place.
Police who were patrolling the neighborhood saw Gulley fall after he was shot, according to court documents.
Gulley’s father and brother told the officers that the shooter and another man ran inside a nearby house, the documents state.
The men ran from the house as officers surrounded it, according to court documents. Officers caught Redmond, but the second man escaped.
Police found a weapon inside the house.
Redmond, of the 11800 block of South Emerald Avenue in Chicago was on parole for an unlawful use of a weapon conviction at the time of the shooting.
He also has convictions for aggravated battery of a police officer and drug offenses, Clancy said.
Gulley also had convictions for gun and drug felonies
