A gunman chased down and killed a 43-year-old man on a street on the city's Southeast Side.
The shooting happened just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of East 79th Place just several blocks from Rainbow Beach Park.
The victim was standing on the street when the unidentified gunman ran toward him while firing a handgun.
The victim, whose identity wasn't immediately released, was struck multiple times in the chest and back. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead
UPDATE:
Killed was Eddie Coleman, who lived on the block where he was wounded, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and court records.
Coleman was on parole for a 2011 conviction for aggravated DUI, according to court records. He had a long list of arrests, along with both misdemeanor and felony convictions. In 1999, Coleman was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated discharge until prosecutors dropped the case the next year.
