3 people shot when police interrupt robbery on West Side

Three people were wounded Wednesday night in a shooting involving Chicago police officers on the West Side
Four Austin District officers saw a robbery in progress around 8:30 p.m. at a store at Lake Street and Laramie Avenue.
During the robbery, there were also "shots fired,".
Two robbers ended up getting shot, as did a store employee.
Although the officers also opened fire during the confrontation, it's unclear who shot whom.
No officers were wounded.

UPDATE:
Three masked bandits and a store clerk were wounded in a wild shootout that occurred after officers were alerted to a robbery on the city's West Side.
Authorities said it was unclear whether the four were wounded by Chicago police, who arrived to witness the shooting, or by the men themselves, as the gunfire spilled out into the streets of the South Austin neighborhood.
Officers fired on the men after arriving to witness one man firing on three outside a beauty supply business in the 5100 block of West Lake Street at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
The incident began when an eyewitness called 911 to report three masked men entering the business, according to Pat Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.
Four officers arriving at the scene heard gunshots from inside the business, then saw the three masked men carrying handguns fleeing outside, Camden said.
Behind them was a fourth man, later determined to be the store clerk, firing shots at the fleeing men, Camden said.
The cops, not knowing who the aggressor was, opened fire, Camden said.
"(The officers) had no idea what was going on -- police officers return fire, three offenders are hit," Camden said. The store clerk was also struck, he said.
Camden said it wasn't immediately clear whether the four were struck by police gunfire, or whether the men wounded one another.
"At this point, we don't know if the (masked men) were hit by the store clerk, or...if the offenders fired," Camden said. "It's kind of all up in the air."
In a statement released this morning, Chicago police said the officers wounded the three men, but only when they pointed their weapons at the officers. The statement also said the fourth victim, presumably the store clerk, was discovered wounded inside the business, but doesn't say who shot him.
Police recovered several weapons at the scene.
All four men were taken to area hospitals in serious-to-critical condition
UPDATE:
Authorities charged three men with an armed robbery in the South Austin neighborhood that ended when Chicago Police arrived and shot the three suspects Wednesday night.
The three, who live within blocks of the store they're charged with robbing, are scheduled to appear in court Saturday.
Police responding to the robbery on the 5100 block of West Lake Street arrived to gunfire and the three men were wounded after police opened fire.

Leevon Carter, 21, of the 100 block of North Lockwood Avenue, is charged with armed robbery with a firearm.
Richie Cole, 19, of the 100 block of North La Crosse Avenue, was charged with armed robbery and a parole violation.
Omar Young, 23, was charged with armed robbery, a parole violation, and aggravated assault of a police officer. He lives two blocks north of Carter.
A clerk at the store was also shot, but it’s not clear if he was shot by police or the three charged with the robbery. The clerk was also
shooting at the robbers.

None of the officers were injured and two weapons were recovered at the scene.
